Description

The P-51 Mustang is an American fighter designed by North American Aviation. Used during the Second World War, it was developed to meet the urgent need for additional British fighters in 1940 during the Battle of Britain. Although performing at low altitude thanks to its great aerodynamic finesse, its engine Allison V-1710 - whose supercharging system is little evolved - initially limits its use as an air superiority fighter. Following the adaptation of the excellent British Rolls-Royce Merlin engine, the aircraft becomes the escort plane needed by the United States to accompany their major strategic bomber raids by day overhead.
